People looking to do there bit for the environment are starting to have a wider selection of electric cars to choose from in the UK and from around the world.

With advancements in technology occuring every year, electric cars are set to dominate the worlds roads and see an end to the gas guzzling vehicles we drive around in today. This article will highlight the best 'Green' cars available to purchase or hire in Britain.

Tang Hua XY08 Chika

The Tang Hua XY08 Chika is a small and stylish city run around from Chinese designer Li Shi Guang Ming. It has been described as “a vehicle that would facilitate personal mobility in crowded cities, where parking space can often be hard to come by”. A diminutive car built for short commutes and small shopping trips, it has a range of around 90 miles before having to be charged and a top speed of about 30 miles per hour.

Automatic transmission means it is easy to drive and with expected low insurance costs, it has great potential for the future.

NICE (No Internal Combustion Engine) – ‘MEGACity

The makers of this car claim that owners could save up to £7,000 each year when taking into consideration the drivers of this vehicle won’t have to pay congestion charge or road tax. The MEGACity will have a top speed of 40 miles per hour and a range of 40 miles before having to be charged. This model is expected to cost in the region of £9,995, but car insurance and running costs will be low.

Elettrica

The Elettrica is set to be one of the first electric models to be sold in Britain and will fetch in the region of £12,000. The battery pack that comes with this car will last around 10 years no matter how it is charged and comes with all the usual perks found in an eco-friendly make.

Sakura Maranello4

Top speed for this car is 30 miles per hour and has a range of up to 45 miles, but can then be charged using any mains outlet. The Maranello4 can be hired from electriccarhire.com or bought for around £10,000 from Sakura Battery Company.

REVA – ‘G-Wiz’

Having already sold 800 models in the UK, this is claimed to be the best-selling electric car. The ac drive model has a range of 48 miles and a top speed of 45 miles per hour with prices for the G-Wiz varying from £7,000 to £8,300. The car comes in a number of wild paint jobs, including leopard print and can boast Elton John and Kristin Scott Thomas among its celebrity fans.

Micro-Vett Ydea

The electric car comes with the highest specification and is available in the UK for £17,000. The Micro-Vett Ydea has a huge 105 mile range and features electric windows and leather upholstery. This make of car has been styled to look as more like regular cars than other eco-friendly vehicles.
